The next 48 hours in Odisha is going to witness a cold wave. The temperature drop will seem to end on January 5. And the minimum temperature will rise in the state after that! The state will not witness any devastating cold wave attack until January 14. IMD and ACCESS-G3 put up a forecast that states the mercury fall in 50% of the state.
The regions that will experience the major blows are Northern, Western, and a few Southern districts. The mercury drop is to record at 8 degrees C on the 4th of January Tuesday. The minimum temperature on Monday, 3rd January, will fluctuate around 10-degree C. But the life of this cold wave won’t stretch out for long. The minimum temperature within Odisha is under expectation to witness a rise over 16-degree C.
Impact of this Cold Wave on Odisha
The entire Northwest, Central, and Northern India will also be witnessing heavy hailstorms and rainfall on January 8 and 9. There is no such prediction upon rainfall in Odisha, which is quite a relief for the farmers of the state. The minimum temperature within Odisha will keep fluctuating between 14 to 16 degrees C till January 9.
But the nighttime temperature for the state till Wednesday will fluctuate with a temperature drop at around 8-to-12-degree C. As per the predictions, the mercury will probably rise, and temperature will increase from Thursday. This cold wave is impacting several cities and parts of Odisha. And the authorities have put up a yellow warning in 5 districts for the same.
The districts that are under the yellow warning include Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Bargarh. These districts will experience the worsening effect of the cold wave. The effects of which will begin from Monday till Wednesday. Sarat Chandra Sahu, the former director of Regional IMD Centre, says that the day & night temperatures will increase from January 5.
There will be hailstorms and rainfall around the western regions of the state. But, the coastal districts will also be witnessing light showers around 10th and 11th January. Dry weather is going to affect most of the districts around the state. There will be shallow to moderate levels of fog in around one or two places of the South Odisha. The fog-risk regions include Angul, Dhenkanal, and Cuttack.
Cold Wave Affect on Bhubaneswar- Capital of the State
The state is about to witness a shiver during the 4th and 5th of January. But the capital city of Odisha will not bother about it. For the forthcoming 48 hours, the temperature at Bhubaneswar will remain around 13 degrees C, at the minimum. There is no such prediction for any kind of rainfall for the state till January 11.
