The city of Delhi is waking up to light rain, and an orange signal has been issued for 19 MP districts.

The weather department has predicted light rain for Delhi and NCR.

Delhi and adjoining areas witnessed light rainfall in the morning that has expected to continue through the day. An ‘orange’ alert for rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning and hail has also been an issue for 19 districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Delhi during the next 24 hours. There will be a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or drizzle towards evening on Friday. There will be shallow fog in the morning,” an IMD bulletin said on Friday. Rain-related incidents have claimed two lives in the state so far, officials said.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor category, with overall AQI at 342 as per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

Only northeast Delhi has recorded “deficit” rainfall, 149.9 mm against the normal of 332.2 mm, since June 1, when the monsoon season starts.

Overall, the national capital has received 40% “extra” rainfall. It thus far—409.9 mm compared to the typical of 293.4 mm, according to the report.

Central Delhi, which had been India’s rainiest district until July 11, has received 62% more rainfall. It is 537.5 mm compared to the long-period average of 332.2 mm.

Despite the monsoon embracing Delhi only on July 13, making it the most-delayed in 19 years. The city had recorded 16 rainy days in the month. The maximum held in the last four years, according to the IMD.

The weather department has predicted normal rainfall — 95 to 106 per cent of the long-period average — for Delhi in the month of August.

The IMD has predicted that the minimum temperatures are also likely to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over northwest India.
