Bharatanatyam Performance on 2nd day of 30th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Fest
On the second day of this Art gathering, the Sankhya dance company of Guru Vaibhav Arekar from Mumbai will perform Bharatanatyam. They have curated a great line-up to express a classical take on Chhatrapati Shivaji. They have not tried to put history in front of the audience. Rather they want to portray the great warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji as a character. While talking to some reporters, Guru Arekar said, “We have tried to present how Bharatanatyam can be a very contemporary language, a language of today’s world and how it can tell us stories beyond the myth.” As the audiences of Bhubaneswar are sensitive to art, their team is thrilled to perform in front of them.
This Bharatanatyam performance was conceptualized in 2015. In Odisha, they will perform this for the first time in 30th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra fest.. While creating this production for the 30th Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Fest, the troupe of Guru Vaibhav Arekar deviated from the traditional over-the-top costume of Bharatanatyam. To create a dynamic piece of art, they have adopted different colours and light designs. According to the Guru, they have tried to show Shivaji Maharaj as a “Karma Yogi”. It means they have portrayed him as a royal who was a monk by heart.
Besides, A lot of awards like Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Prativa Samman and Shalimar’s Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award 2024 will be given to eminent personalities.
