Just like in any of the other parts of India, Odisha is also witnessing slow spikes of Omicron cases. This Sunday, there was a detection of 424 positive cases. Out of which, 23 are of Omicron variant, which takes the total toll of the state to 37 now.
All of the samples go for the process of genome sequencing at ILS (Institute of Life Science), Bhubaneswar. Bijay Mohapatra, the Health Services Director, gives clarity upon the new 23 Omicron cases. So, he says that out of 23 new cases, 19 are male, and only four are female. In addition to that, all of these cases are within the age group of 8 to 83 years!
The District-Wise Case Count for Omicron
Amongst the 23 new cases, here is the breakdown of a number of cases from respective districts:
- Seven positive cases report are from the Keonjhar district.
- Four positive cases report are from the Khordha district
- Three positive cases report are from the Puri district.
- Three positive cases report are from the Sambalpur district.
- Two positive cases report are from the Boudh district
- Two positive cases report are from Angul district.
- One positive case report is from the Balasore district.
- One positive case report is from the Jagatsinghpur district.
Everyone who has a positive report of Omicron is showing mild symptoms and are completely asymptomatic. Moreover, their condition is completely stable, and they are on medications. Hence, they will soon recover from this condition with just medication and rest.
The Preliminary Data of the Omicron Cases
As per the preliminary data of these new Omicron cases, 50% of these 23 positive cases are foreign returnees. And, the rest, 50%, are accountable as the local cases. Hence, there is a research and validation process going on. It is to determine if the local cases have any international history of travel anytime recently.
The local cases are also under validation to know if they came in contact with any foreign returnee. So, if they did, then they should give details of that person. It is to ensure that he/she can undergo tracing process for an immediate action. Hence, this approach is to prevent the further spread of this virus.
COVID 19 cases are increasing in Odisha! In addition to that, greater number of samples are going to the labs for genome sequencing concerns. So, it is to determine a long-term defense strategy for this new Omicron variant of COVID. As per the observatory experience, it is clear that around 90% of the Omicron cases are asymptomatic. And the patients recover from it with just home isolation.
The rapid response team is taking ideal care to track all of these cases. Moreover, they are also taking concern to offer appropriate care and hospitalization. Odisha reported its first Omicron variant case on 21st December 2021. They returned from Qatar and Nigeria, respectively, and carried the virus along with them.
Moving on, there were two more positive Omicron cases on 23rd December 2021. And, 5 more were added on 30th December 2021. Hence, It was then 14 cases until 23 new ones were added to the list on 2nd January 2022.
