Sunil Gavaskar has stated that in the present ODI series against South Africa, Team India, captained by KL Rahul, should seek beyond a veteran India player and instead turn to Deepak Chahar.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, India’s medium-pacer, has been unproductive in the first two One-Day Internationals against South Africa at Boland Park in Paarl. He hasn’t given the hitters any problems and has also gone wicketless. Following the disappointing performance, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar feels the team should turn to Deepak Chahar.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return to the team has been lackluster. He gave up 64 runs in 10 overs in the opening game. In the second game on Friday, he recorded figures of 0/67 in just eight overs.
“I think it’s time to look at Deepak Chahar now,” Gavaskar stated as he explained his reasoning. He is younger, bowls similarly, and bats comfortably down the order.”
“Bhuvi has been an incredible servant of Indian cricket, but in the last year or two, even at franchise level T20 cricket, he has been costly. Not in the start of the inning, but at the conclusion. He used to bowl excellent yorkers and slower deliveries, but those are no longer effective. That is possible; the opposition is always researching you and will know how to prepare for it. So maybe it’s time to search elsewhere.”
