It’s been around two years since Apple launched iPhone XR in the international market, including India. However, in 2020, iPhone XR is still the most demanding and popular iPhone in the global market. According to a survey, in 2019, iPhone XR was the best selling smartphone in the world with the shipment number around 27 million. But, surprisingly, no other smartphones even touched its halfway mark.
The company is currently producing the smartphone at its Chennai facility in India. But now it seems like the company is going to close the iPhone XR production for the next 21 days, due to the nationwide lockdown.
Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, announced that the nation is going to be locked for a whopping 21 days. The Government of India is strictly imposing section 144 to prevent all sorts of public gatherings. The police forces across the country will take action against those who will not obey the lockdown.
Apple’s Grand India Plan
The Chennai facility of Apple is also producing the latest iPhone 11. However, iPhone XR was the most popular device across the country. Thanks to the price cut of iPhone XR, Apple doubled its India market share, from 1% to 2%, in 2019.
The company is gradually transferring its manufacturing units from China to India. Apple also has a long term vision to make India its manufacturing hub. And, it will export its iPhones from the country to all over the world.
The Effect of the Lockdown
The recent lockdown is not going to help Apple for its business purposes. However, the lockdown is instrumental for controlling the Coronavirus outbreak in the second most populated country in the world. By now, India has witnessed as many as ten deaths due to the outbreak.
