From an inactive lifestyle to ageing, a lot of factors cause frozen shoulders. This condition limits the movement of the shoulders and causes unbearable pain in that area. Timely treatment for this condition is non-negotiable as it can be chronic without proper medical help.
However, the actress and nutritionist Bhagyshree shared some range-of-motion exercises to relax the shoulder bone and muscle. While it can’t replace the need for medical help, it can relax the shoulder area and reduce the pain you are feeling.
What are the exercises?
Band Pull Apart:
According to the “Maine Pyaar Kiya” fame actress Bhagyshree, doing the band pull-apart exercise targets your shoulder, upper body and back as well. Use a flexible resistance band. Hold it tightly in your clasped hands. Pull it apart and extend your arms forward. Hold in this position for a few minutes. Go back to the starting position. Doing this 9 times in three sets will help your shoulder area relax.
French Press:
While doing this, use the same flexible resistance band. Move your arms backwards, then to the sides and then forward. Repeating this ten to twelve times in a set of three provides a decent movement to the shoulders. As the actress has fixed this condition in her life before, she expressed that stiffness causes a lot of pain in that area. So, moving helps.
Overhead pulls:
Start by standing straight and keeping your hands at a right angle with your hips. Stretch your hands up. You must push your limits. However, you should listen to your body. Repeat this ten to eleven times in a set of three.

According to Dr Udit Kapoor, an orthopaedic consultant at Metro Hospital, Faridabad, these exercises can be helpful for shoulder movement. However, he criticizes overhead pulls, saying that it is not for frozen shoulders but rather for triceps. He also shares some other exercises like pendulum stretch and towel stretch to have relaxed shoulders.
