Thanks to the growing effort by the world community, and effective measure by each stakeholder, the ozone layer of the earth has recovered by a significant level. The depleting Ozone Layer, especially Over the Antarctica continent, was a prime cause of concern for the entire human species.
The Gradually Healing Ozone Layer
A recent study credits the Montreal Protocol for the remarkable achievement. The 1987 agreement decided to restrict the production of the depleting substances by a large extent.
The ozone depletion has an adverse impact on the air circulation system. The southern hemisphere saw a reversal of regular wind circulation by the 1990s. The depletion affected multiple air circulation pattern, but the jet stream in the Southern hemisphere affected significantly.
The Ozone depletion pushed the jet stream to further south, towards the South pole.
The shift of the jet stream has affected the overall climate of the southern hemisphere. The regular rainfall pattern and ocean current in the region started to change in a significant manner.
The Gradual Change in the Trend
Initially, the study found that the jet stream is no longer pushing to South. On the other hand, it started reversing to its original pattern, which is definitely a good sign. Researchers used different models and computer simulations to find out the reason for such positive changes in the jet wind pattern. They found that the healing of the Ozone layer depletion has an impact on the recent change.
Australia was facing the danger of drought, owing to the irregular rainfall triggered by the shift of the jet stream. But the recent change will help the continent to restore its original climatic condition. If the changes continue, Australia will eradicate any chances of drought very soon.
