On Tuesday a highly qualified young woman opened up about her bad experience while renting a house in Bhubaneswar. She said to the media that she was looking for a pet-friendly apartment. While looking for a rental house in Bhubaneswar, she found an advertisement on the 99 Acres app with a verified tick mark. She trusted the advertisement as it was app-verified.
The fraudulent broker talked to her like the real owner when she called the given number. And then, the broker sent the Google location, photos and videos. When she asked about visiting the apartment, the fraud broker created an excuse. He said that he was away from Bhubaneswar and told her to come the next day. However, the fraud broker convinced the girl to pay the rent amount even before seeing the apartment. Once the payment was done, he did not pick up her call.
Just two days before this case, another fraud happened while renting a house in Bhubaneswar. A software engineer from Jharkhand faced the fraud. She was browsing through OLX and found a house. It was in Maitri Vihar, Bhubaneswar. When she contacted the given number, a person talked to her like the real owner and took 11,000 rupees as an advance payment.
However, the police are silent on both of these matters.
