Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away here late on Tuesday night at the age 53. He died while performing in his last show at Nazrul Manch organized by the Gurudas College in South Kolkata. After completing the show as per the schedule, he returned to his hotel in central Kolkata and felt uneasy again. He was declared “brought dead in a local hospital. West Bengal Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Arup Biswas told media persons that the body has been sent for post-mortem.
‘’His family members have been informed. They are likely to reach Kolkata on Wednesday morning,” Biswas said. One of the organizers said that “He was constantly requesting to switch off the spotlights and at intervals, he was going backstage to take rest. However, not even once he express his desire to quit the show in between,”
KK’s manager, Ritesh Bhat, told media persons that “KK said that he was having cramp feeling in his limbs and also asked me to switch off the car AC,”
“Prima facie it seems that the reason for death is cardiac arrest. But the final cause of death can be ascertained only after the post-mortem is completed and a report is available,” said a police officer.
Kk was born on August 23, 1968 and recorded songs in various languages including Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu, among others.
Several singers have expressed their grief over the sudden demise of KK. Vishal Dadlani commented: “The tears won’t stop. What a guy he was. What a voice, what a heart, what a human being. #KK is FOREVER!!!”
Actor Manoj Bajpayee said: “It’s so so heartbreaking! A talent with grace & dignity! Pure gem of a person! Known him for many years!! Will take a lot of time to come to terms with this loss!! Condolences to his family & friends!! #RIPKK SPEECHLESS!!”
