On January 10, 28 new Omicron cases were discovered, with 18 of them having a history of overseas travel. The last 10 days saw the detection of 83 of the 103 total cases. The number of persons infected with this variety in Odisha has risen to 347.

Notably, the Delta variation was found in 74.5 percent of the community samples sequenced last week, with the rest being Omicron. 196 of the 263 samples taken at random from the population were positive for Delta and its sub-lineages (AY.44 and the original B.1.617.2), whereas 67 tested positive for Omicron.
The results show that the Delta variant is still prevalent in the population. So there should be no complacency in the management and treatment of patients. So sub-lineage may be creating the local clusters in such areas.
According to the ILS director, the Delta variant may be dominant based on recent statistics. But Omicron sub-type BA.2 is rapidly replacing it throughout the state. “On Monday, we’ll be sequencing 250 more community samples. This will provide a clear image of Omicron’s existence here,” he said, according to the national newspaper.
